As I was rummaging through my parents’ attic, I found a box of old Christmas cookie tins- you know, the kind that you get as gifts from co-workers in a corporate office. They are great gifts for the season, but once the cookies inside are gone, what do you do with the tins?
Well I did what any creatively inspired person would do: I spent hours on Pinterest coming up with the perfect re-purposing craft! There were a few great ideas, but I modified them just  bit to make an adorable little coffee bean tin!
I neglected to take a before pic of my tin, but thankfully a bit of Googling helped me solve that! So here is what the tin looked like prior to my crafting:
  • I wiped the tin down to remove any dust or dirt that was on the surface and grabbed a box with handles (that way I could transport it while not having to touch it when it was wet).
  • I bought Rustoleum chalkboard spray paint at Home Depot for roughly $4, but you can usually get chalkboard paint at basic craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I pop the top off and sprayed in even lines, back and forth across all sides of the tin. It was super easy to apply and dried within a few minutes, thanks to the Tennessee heat. The can says that it takes an hour to be dry to the touch but 24 hours to fully dry. Mine only took about 7 hours to be fully dry.
  • The paint instructions also suggest that you rub a piece of chalk (long-ways) across the chalkboard surface and then wipe it away to help prep it for future use. I had to be careful not to press to hard, because as you might guess, the tin surface can be scratched easily. I was very pleased with the final product and I made several others!
Here is how this one turned out:
