Don’t you just love open doors!?

We had a project idea, thanks to Pinterest and I prayed and asked the Lord for a free door. He cares about the little things and is a very good provider! Within a couple of weeks, my husband found an old door for free through a Facebook page. It had been used in a Halloween decoration and looked very rough, but it was very close to the right size (which is a very hard quality to find in an old door!).

SO! He stripped the old paint off, repainted it and distressed it. He carved out new hinges with a chisel, added a strip of wood to the bottom to lengthen it, and then added a rustic-style door knob! To finish it off, he made an adorable decal in photoshop and had it printed at a local sign shop in our town. The whole project took a couple of weeks (nights or weekends mostly due to having a full-time job). I absolutely love how it turned out!

**Also, several people have mentioned their love for the window decal. If you’re interested in having one customized for your project, my husband is a graphic designer and would love to have your business! His website is Grishamdesigns.com and his email address is Grishamdesigns@gmail.com

  1. I absolutely love that yoU personalized your laundry room door with your name, that it was a waste not ~ want not, recycled project and that it’s so beautiful!

    • Thanks Janice! My husband did a wonderful job! (Sorry it took me so long to respond! I didn’t see your comment until my husband updated my website!)

  2. Ms. Brittany- Absolutely LOVE your door! We recently bought one just like it and wondered if you would be willing to share your decal files so we could try and print them for our door (with a different last name of course ;-)?

    • Hi Michelle! Thanks for your kind compliment! My husband is a graphic designer, so he would be happy to create customized artwork for you for $25. He will provide files that you can send to your local print shop. His website is Grishamdesigns.com and his email is Grishamdesigns@gmail.com. I hope this helps! Good luck on your project! (Sorry it took me so long to respond! I didn’t see your comment until now!)

    • Hi Susan! My husband created the artwork (he is a graphic designer- Grishamdesigns.com) And then we sent the files to a local printer in our community to have them made into decals. (Sorry it took me so long to respond! I didn’t see your comment until my husband updated my website!)

    • Wow this response is extremely overdue. I’m so sorry!! I did look for the color we used, but unfortunately I can’t read the label anymore! I hope you ended up finding a color that you liked!

  3. Amen Brittney! He does care about all things concerning us. Thank you for sharing. I am looking forward to sharing a similar testimony. I love this door!😊

    • Hey! My husband and I searched everywhere from antique shops to Craigslist. We ended up finding one online that someone had previously used for a Halloween decoration. I wish I had a set answer for you, but each old door is very unique in size and design. My best advice is to search on Craigslist, check with Habitat for Humanity warehouses, or to ask around on social media. Good luck!!
